The Difference Is Macau
For almost four and a half centuries international travellers have been
coming to Macau for.. adventure and sanctuary.. knowledge and
excitement.. business and pleasure, Invariably they have found far more

Over the years, Macau has built up its economy and it
is a free port, which imposes virtually no restrictions or limits on the
flow of goods, services and capital, therefore, it is an ideal city for
exhibitions. It also offers conference and meeting centre, a modern
international standard telecommunication in infrastructure.
Macau has a reputation for its special blend of
Southern European and Southern Chinese styles in all aspects of life. One
can also find evidences of another blend, historical and modern. Temples,
fortresses, churches, ruins, palaces and gardens bear faithful witness to
the long history.
The Ruins of St Paul's, Sun Yat-sen Memorial House, Kun Iam Temple, Lou
Lim Ieoc, etc...On the other hand, new boulevards, buildings and
sculptures embody the city's modern and dynamic spirit.
Gourmets will find many delights here. One will be
amazed by the great variety of cuisine, Beijing, Burmese, Italian, Indian,
Japanese, Korean, Macanese, Malaysian, Portuguese, Shanghai, Thai, Yunnan
and, at the same time, entranced by the extraordinary fine cooking at
local food stalls, at amazingly low cost. Moreover, an eclectic variety of
year round events and festivals are on offer: the International Fireworks
Festival, Macau Grand Prix, Macau International Dragon Boat Races, Macau
International Music Festival.
General Location and Area
Macau
is located on the southeastern coast of China. The Territory comprises of
the Macau Penisula (with 8.8 sq. km and connected to Mainland China), the
islands of taipa (6.4 sq. km) and Coloana (7.6 sq. km and the reclaimed
area COTAI (4.7 sq. km). The total area of Macau is 27.5 km2.
Climate and Dress
The climate is moderate to hot, with an average annual temperature of just
over 20 Celsius (68 Fahrenheit). The humidity is high with an average
range between 75% and 90%. Rainfall is also high with the yearly total
between 40 & 80 inches.
The highest humidity record is from March to August, from October until
December the weather is dry being the mildest and most pleasant reason of
the year. The rainy months extend from May until September. The typhoon
season in Macau lasts from June to September. Cotton or light clothing is
recommended for summer. Woollen clothing and sometimes a top-coat for the
winter. Sweaters and jackets are useful for the cooler evenings, from
October to April.
Currency
The unit of currency in Macau is the Pataca (MOP$).
By the decision of the Government the Pataca is linked to Hong Kong dollar
(HK$) which is accepted as currency in Macau. The exchange rate is
MOP$103.20 = HK$100.00. There is an acceptable variation up to 10%.
Roughly 8 Patacas is equivalent to 1 US Dollar.
Special Occasions
Macau enjoys a celebration, be it a Chinese festival, a Christian saint's
day or an historical anniversary. In addition there are new annual events
which attract a wide range of visitors, from music lovers to motor racing
fans.
